    Should we think about spirituality?

    By Fazrul Ismail | April 22, 2008

I know spirituality is something vague when I discuss with my American friends. For certain, even it is considered as taboo - you will see blushing face after you you try to mention about God in public. But for me, it is an interesting topic because I can rationalize and see how this topic will go and affect my life. There is a book ‘Spirituality for Our Global Community by Daniel A Helminiak. I spent a moment to dig the essence on what he is going to say.

    Foaminess…

    By Fazrul Ismail | April 10, 2008

How do we build a foaminess state in our life? Is it important? This is from Wikipedia

Systems thinking promotes a foaminess of collaboration, allowing for individual ideas to share the burden of the entire system. This assures excellent stability and adaptability—characteristics lacking in systems of thought which insist on homogeneity and absolute efficiency.

Now I have broader idea on Systems Thinking I am researching. Instead of knowing US and Canada version, my friend Luke suggested me with several names to understand European version of ST. Those names:

Between US vs Canada version of Systems Thinking

    By Fazrul Ismail | April 7, 2008

I read for the first time about Systems Thinking from Peter M Senge in his monumental book The Fifth Discipline. Peter M Senge is teaching at MIT, Boston. His ’school’ of Systems Thinking could be classified as US Version. While I was in Malaysia, I met Dr Ridhwan Fontaine, a British lecturer in Multimedia University. He is attached with a consultant, and they are teaching Systems Thinking too. But they like more on Canadian Version - focusing on Action Learning. I just surfed one of the website regarding Action Learning and I guess it is worthwhile that I take several big titles of their courses for me to check if I have any idea on what they are talking about. This is to encourage myself to read and search for more literature in the realm of Systems Thinking.

Can’t go into the same water twice

    By Fazrul Ismail | April 5, 2008

Socrates: Heracleitus is supposed to say that all things are in motion and nothing at rest; he compares them to the stream of a river and says that you cannot go into the same water twice.

    Plato Cratylus, 402A1

It is pretty interesting to read the introduction by Blane Despres in his book ‘Systems Thinker in Action’ where he compares a systems complexity with the poetic rhythms of a river meandering through the countryside. He can stick the foot in the river one summer and come back again the next summer, or multiple summers later, to the “same” river. Yet, according to Heracleitus, it is never the same river.
